To celebrate the installation, npower organised for children in Year Five from the school to take part in an npower Climate Cops Academy day. The day consists of teaching pupils about renewable energy, turning them into cadets and taking a class oath, before graduating from the Academy. Head Teacher, Mrs Hutchinson, at Monkspath Junior and Infant School said “The solar panels will make a huge difference to the school, not just by saving money but also as an education tool. We are proud to be doing our bit to help the environment by having the panels installed and we’d like to thank the npower Juice fund for helping to provide us with years of renewable energy for the school.” The solar panels have been installed with the help of the npower Juice fund, which was launched in 2001, and has raised more than £2 million since its creation. The Juice fund is also helping three other community based projects over the summer holidays by installing renewable technologies which include Solar panels and Biomass boilers. Matthew Cole, npower’s Green Tariff Manager, explains: “The npower Juice Fund is designed to help projects such as this. We are delighted to be able to work with Monkspath Junior and Infant School to enable them to save thousands of pounds over the coming years and benefit from the use of renewable technology” Councillor Ken Hawkins, Mayor of Solihull & Monkspath School Governor says “It’s great that the pupils are learning about renewable energy. Responsible interaction with the environment is the purview of all, young and old. These solar panels are a view of the way forward towards a more sustainable future. I am immensely proud of everyone here at Monkspath School.” npower Juice is electricity that is 100% matched with renewable sources. It costs the same as our standard electricity. Juice has been certified in line with OFGEM’s Green Supply Guidelines, as a tariff with genuine environmental benefits. In addition, for every customer that takes Juice, npower makes a contribution of £10 every year into the Juice Fund. The fund is then used to support community based renewable generation projects which provide a real environmental benefit.
